Turn a One-Off Win into a Repeatable Chore

You cleaned up your invoices once. Now make it a one-sentence chore you never have to explain again.

The move is simple: ask Claude Code to write down how it did the job, in its own words, so it can follow those steps next time. In the same folder where your win worked, paste this:

That worked well. Write yourself a short set of standing instructions for this exact task, saved as a file called INSTRUCTIONS.md in this folder, so next time I can just say "do the invoice sort" and you'll follow them.

Claude will write out the steps it took and save them. You don't touch the file or learn any settings; it does the writing.

Next month, you start Claude Code in that folder and say:

do the invoice sort

It reads its own notes and repeats the job the same way, without you re-explaining a thing. You've turned a one-time favor into a routine.

You can do this for any win you liked: the PDF-to-spreadsheet pull, the photo renaming, the notes-to-memo draft. Each one becomes a named chore you trigger with a sentence. Over a few weeks you build up a little menu of things Claude just knows how to do for you.

Try this now: take the win you finished this week and ask Claude to save its standing instructions for it. Then close Claude, reopen it in that folder, and trigger the chore by name to prove it stuck.
